Winter Melody by Tobi Alfier

The sky is white pearl

make snow angels in the park

winter’s truly here.

            ***

Saxophone solo

the most soothing sound to hear

matches the sky’s voice.

            ***

An early daybreak

sliver of reluctant light

too soon to be blush.

            ***

Trucks rust out in back

fields lie in the wilt of cold

nothing to harvest.

            ***

Hot chocolate on stoves

keep stirring in double-eights

churros for dipping.

            ***

Sleep is a journey

dreams run as free as children

nightbirds sing faintly.

     what a shame

The dull gray of spires

bells inaudible in wind

church brings no mercy.
