The Redden Face by Yi Jung Chen

You, impetuous and naughty,

played the game of Hide-and-Seek with me,

could not stop running till your face turning red,

breathless, in a funny shape.

Whenever skirmishes happened,

you acted up promptly.

With a rush of blood to the head,

you screamed out: Teacher, help me now!

Alas, how I repented on

my failure of repressing the urge to

be your life savior in vain.

even if the moon calls me insane,

the gentle breeze laughs at my ignorance.

Besides teaching students of learning difficulties in Dounan Elementary School of Taiwan, Yi Jung (Jolene) Chen wrote scripts and co-worked with other teachers for illustrated books in Chinese, English and Japanese. In her leisure time, she also wrote English, Chinese and Taiwanese poems. Provided given the opportunity, she would like to have her work published by a reliable agent.
