Orchard in Winter by M.J.Iuppa

1.

Whenever I see you walking beneath the trees, I

recall the year we planted the orchard, imagining the wild

dreams we had of wicker baskets heavy with kindness.

2.

In your patience, the month of Sundays in December

seem to keep silent—like a red-tail hawk

hanging stock-still in the winter sky.

3.

Overnight, snow falls upon the thicket.

By morning, you rise & look out the window

at the sudden whiteness— the light

in your eyes— weightless.
