Mediterranean Sea of Tourists by Allan Lake

Ancients – pre-delusion – were part

of Nature with wolf instincts plus

knack for creating tools/weapons.

Current crop kicks Nature’s tender

country regularly to underline just

who is absolute ruler of household.

Travel consumers visit ‘historic’ centres

of bloated cash-addicted cities, not fields

of wildflowers beyond. Book now & save!

Not much parking in narrow cobblestoned

streets so stoned pilgrims trudge, wheezing

to another ‘holy’ place. Mangy cats, dogs,

beggars, souvenir shop and cafe owners

welcome affluent effluent.

Originally from Saskatchewan, Allan Lake has lived in Vancouver, Cape Breton Island, Ibiza, Tasmania & Melbourne. Poetry Collection: Sand in the Sole (Xlibris, 2014). Lake won Lost Tower Publications(UK) Comp 2017 & Melbourne Spoken Word Poetry Fest/The Dan 2018.

Poetry Chapbook (Ginninderra Press, 2020): My Photos of Sicily.
