blue can be this by Pearl Button

blue can be this: the indigo gleam of bodies

bounding ecstatically inside the skin of the world.

it needn't be the blue of a lung's starvation;

a held breath can also be the last moment

before an ecstatic break.

the blue of longing can be wide, a window

into the golden furnace of somatic alchemy.

all that needs remembering: blue is just a colour;

longing, just a feeling.

Pearl Button lives in the Salishan Territories of western North America. She is published or forthcoming in a variety of journals including The Literary Cauldron, Posit, SurVision Magazine, Skink Beat Review, Impspired and Peculiar Mormyrid.
