At River's Edge in Late October by Joshua Demarest

At river's edge in late October

As autumn leaves began their fall

My eyes beheld an angel there

That did my heart enthrall.

Her golden hair would soon ensnare

My poet's imagination

And soon my days were all but spent

In eternal adoration.

At river's edge in late October

We wed upon the glen

And love and lust and such and such

Became our mortal sin.

Our passions burned as we both learned

Of our immortal souls

We etched our names for all of time

Upon the eternal scrolls.

At river's edge in late October

I dug my angel's grave--

The mortal world could not contain

The love I got and gave.

A carven stone that stands alone

Is all that now remains

Of my darling bride, my love, my pride--

My angel Madelaine.
