The Verge of Nothing by Alec Jolley

The wind lashed itself across my face

as I stumbled along the beaten path,

fulfilling my obligations to no one.

And I wondered,

where do I lie,

on the verge of nothing?

As I walked,

inside me, the bottle filled.

But everyone should know,

that glass cracks

and shatters on the kitchen floor,

for all to see.

Alec Jolley is a 17-year-old high school student from Toronto, Canada. He runs Mirror, his school’s student-published arts and culture magazine and frequently writes for them. He is passionate about politics and hopes to one day run for office. He cites Allen Ginsberg and Lou Reed as his greatest creative inspirations. On quiet days he can be found digging through record bins or journeying across Toronto on his bicycle.
