The Stars Don’t Care by Wil Michael Wrenn
The stars don’t care
if I am right or not;
they don’t judge or criticize.
The bird that flies
through the skies
and lights in a tree above me
doesn’t care if I’m not
what someone thinks I should be.
If I fail at being
the person I want to be,
or try to be,
the cattle and horses in the field
don’t notice or care.
The animals, trees, stars,
moon, and sky that overlook
and surround me
are content with me
and satisfied
that I am a part of them;
they notice not my faults and failures,
my imperfections, my infirmities.
Even my rejection by others
does not move them;
my desolation
does not bother them or sway them.
They are what they are,
and I am what I am.
I remain alone but unjudged.
The stars don’t care.
