The Crickets’ Melody by Anisa Mughal

The cycle repeats. Crickets sing their songs,

Gleaming stars pose against obsidian sky,

The universe and all its elements,

Prepare for the mysteries of night.

Shut eyes that once saw a deep, dark abyss,

Witness tragedy, feel love, see colour.

For some, these dreams are forthwith forgotten.

For others, they lurk as clear conscious thoughts.

And I? I yearn for a peaceful night’s sleep.

I envision fantastical escapes;

Romantic dinners with golden glimmers.

But alas, I lie awake, awaiting.

Anisa Mughal is a 17-year-old poet and student from Ontario, Canada. She enjoys journaling, painting, learning about plants, and playing the flute and alto saxophone in her spare time.
