Star by Joseph Powell

(for Amy W.)

Have you ever seen

a shooting star

as it streaks across

the night sky?

It’s best to pay attention

to it--

marvel at its wonder;

celebrate its beauty;

honor its fieryness;

make a wish,

before it’s gone.

For it is possible,

you may never see

its like again.

Joseph Powell is a writer and spoken word artist and the author of four collections of poetry including The Spirit Of Baldwin Compels Me.
