Silent Wings by R.M. Scott

large wings flap

alongside

unheard beneath the breeze

gliding to a destination

not yet seen

the great horned owl lands

and camouflages into

a power pole

two puffs of horns

adorn its wide fluffed head

which turns

its round eyes pierce

through and past

infinite

but not held

days and miles away

as if waiting

the same owl swoops down

leaving a different power pole

a red-tailed hawk hunts

from it by day

and the owl claims

the vantage point by night

and yet again two days past

its brown wings swirl ‘round

rushing the air but unmoving

circling, silent

it lands on a fence post

and rotates its head

its eyes connect, contact

delivering the message

infinite exchanged
