Piccolo Warming Up by Katrin Talbot

Like a seam

    ripping

Like a needle

    the pierce,

    the mend

I hear her a floor below

through the hall’s intercom

as I sip coffee,

check my fastenings,

scan for

unravelings

She could be

the first part of

a sunrise,

the interruption of

night by

day,

their quiet arguments,

their kiss goodnight
