My Heart Aflutter by Bobbi Sinha-Morey

God bless for tiny miracles;

the taste of bay leaves on

my tongue evoked the memory

of a childhood dream; and

me, so silent as a tree, turning

a fresh page everyday to see

if the unexpected might appear.

I couldn't still my trembling

fingers when I saw a yellow

breasted tanager so near my

bedroom window, and I read

the lines of naturalist, tears

of inspiration between every

word. The future still remains

for me to explore the world

and do as I please, chasing

a white leaf in the air so

playfully out of my reach;

my heart aflutter given this

chance on life, the bright sun

growing even brighter, me

stealing away to sleep under

a flowering tree.
