In Silence the Word Whispers by Ruan Bradford Wright

Quando fiam uti chelidon

The musk rose folds upon herself

like a mother, keening

Hush now –

don't you hear the swallow

in the rafters, whispering

crickets chittering, Ariadne

at her web, clicking

and all the echoes in between

making waves, making us –

Listen

When will I be like the swallow?

Ruan Bradford Wright was born and educated in the UK, but now lives in the US. She's written since she was a child, and published sporadically. Her chapbook, thought-fish, was published in 2009 by Moon Journal Press.
