heart by Mark A. Fisher

I
wish to
see restored
lost habitat
~~~~~
ashes of forests
like Alexandria burned
its hidden wisdom unlearned
perhaps forgotten
~~~~~
or unnoticed
while life just
bustles
by
taking
memories
of what had been
~~~~~
once so beautiful
with wildflowers, spotted lilies
away from the gray cities
where streams rolled downhill
~~~~~
through trees older
than the state
beyond
rocks
holding
up the sky
ancient mountains
~~~~~
that have watched change come
and white glaciers disappear
sand and desert grow each year
where once there were seas
~~~~~
I do not have
enough heart
to wait
years
