Everyday struggle by Raeesa Usmani

1

The sun arose afresh from a sound sleep

and the sleepy road

was awoken by the paced commuters

rushing to begin the day, as usual

whacked it to consciousness

the momentous juggling is intriguing

between half-consciousness and

retrieving consciousness, a struggle

to make sense of the gaudy present

after a bleak starry night, spent counting stars

a frequent routine these days

the sleepy road is awakening

not to act but to keep to mundane routine

because it, yet, isn’t ready to quit

however challenging the time becomes!

2

The warm and soothing bedding

is my ultimate companion in the journey

that I am leading, all by myself

not bumping into like-minded folks

oftentimes wondering, if something is wrong

with me or do I need to develop a perspective

to understand the ways of life,

my life that cannot be paralleled

with nameless co-travelers in the journey

a distinct one in it’s own way, called life

it is my go-to at the end of the long day

my bed, you know, it embraces me,

when I’m all spent in its comforting hug,

reassures me of my being,

not alone any longer in its sedative aura,

manifesting the mystic charisma,

a tonic that keeps me going!
