Chalking the Sky by Sarah Gorban
When I was younger
there were thoughts of
chalking the sky and I
preceded to rummage through
the bucket that would later
be placed on top of the head
releasing crayons constructed for creation
for often the sky is of a color
and a mind filtered to create sight
of the tangible and known
To then set aside sidewalk chalk
as sealed in a monochromatic manner
for steps are approaching as an echo
to come inside for I know
mother and father won’t approve of
the desire to merge the rainbow
and construct a forest in open air
to be grounded beyond the roots
that only know of the sky above
and the chalk in the bucket
