Aureate Afternoon by Lorraine Caputo

Golden dragonflies flit

            in the noon sun

A tumbleweed tumbles

            in the tranquil surf

                        of the deep-aqua bay

A soft breeze caresses

flor de la reina flowers & palm

The sere hills crumble

            towards the waters

Out in the gulf

            men fish from rowboats

                        surrounded by pelicans

Poet-translator-travel writer Lorraine Caputo’s works appear in over 250 journals on six continents; and 17 collections of poetry – including On Galápagos Shores (dancing girl press, 2019) and the upcoming Escape to the Sea (Origami Poems Project, 2021).
